I love the Fall time and the new makeup trends that come with the change of every season. My friend Jenna is a talented hairstylist at Wink Salon in Asheville, NC. On my last visit there she approached me to do the makeup for a photoshoot she was doing with a photographer to help build his portfolio. Her idea was a leather and lace theme. She did her own fantastically dramatic victory rolls. We have been seeing a spin on pin-up makeup for a while now and I wanted to match the drama that her hair was.

The most important were the red lips, winged out liner and solid eyebrows. She has gorgeous skin so I made sure to highlight the cheekbones while keeping a warm neutral cheek for a natural flushed blush look. The matte eyeshadow was built on top of a shimmery primer, Clinique’s cashew later lid smoothie. I used Clinique’s true black creamliner (see previous eyeliner blog post!). Eyebrows are my new passion! Because of her red hair, I used Clinique’s ultrafine brow liner in soft auburn. After using a clean mascara wand to brush her eyebrows up and out towards her hairline, I did longer strokes with theĀ linerĀ at the top of her brow to lift her eyes and open them up. I made the lips a deeper red than is traditionally seen in pin-up photos. I wanted to keep the drama up, using a deep red with a warm undertone lip liner to stain the lips and build the pigment. I then filled in with Clinique’s vintage wine long last lipstick (a personal favorite).

These are a couple of quick shots from my camera before the photoshoot. She looked dropped dead glamorous and I felt so priviledged to be asked to be a part of her artistic vision!

Not only do we love our brides but we love doing makeup for nights out, photoshoots, cosplay or anything else fun! We also love to teach, let us know if you’d like us to travel to you to style a teaching lesson, fantastic photo shoot or a fun night out anytime!

I will be participating in “Pin Ups for Pups”, spondered by BMW of Asheville on March 9th. There will be a photoshoot with the end product being a “Pin Up Calendar”. All proceeds to be split between the Asheville Humane Society and “Pin Ups for Pitbulls. March 9th is a Sunday so it’s an “off” day for most hairsylists. Anyone donating time, services, etc. will be featured in the photobooks, website and calendar – to what extent, I’m not completely sure. Is this something you might be interested in helping with? If so, I can get back with you to talk about it and work out details. Any thoughts, ideas, etc. you may have would be most appreciated. Thank you. Susan (Teri) Watkins
